Alex Shelton After spending time working for Merv Griffin's Beverly Hilton, Alex took the lessons and marketing strategies of this Beverly Hills hotel and implemented them when he was hired by The Imperial Palace in Las Vegas. While there, he took a plan that originally had $25,000 committed to it, and increased the contribution to $1 million in year 3 in trade and cash working with teams in MLB, NHL, College Sports, NBA and Minor League Sports in Hockey, Baseball, Arena Football and Canadian Football League. This marketing program did not involve any cash contribution. The hotel broke room revenue records in 3 straight years. Alex wrote a business plan that was purchased by USA Hosts for a new firm that would be dedicated to convention and meeting planning for events going into Las Vegas. This firm launched Hispanic marketing programs and grew events from 7,000 people to 80,000 people after just 3 years. This experience helped attract the attention of venues and governmental agencies in other markets where he began consulted for them. Alex secured contracts with agencies from Nashville, Memphis, Miami, San Jose, Boise, Phoenix and Detroit. The conventions did very well with several becoming Trade Show Fastest 50 Growing Shows. The Venetian hired Alex to help lead their convention team. He was instrumental in taking the property to record breaking room, catering and rental income records in each of his four years on property. A major accomplishment was two of the largest convention contracts in US tradeshow history in agreements with VNU and Reed Exhibitions worth $100 million dollars each. Alex is the youngest person on PCMA's Presidential Steering Committee and has been asked to speak at MPI, IAEE and PCMA National Conventions. Retained as a consultant in mid 2010, Alex was offered and accepted the position of Executive Vice President with Nationwide Meetings. His experience and knowledge will be an integral part of the firms growth in the years to come.
